RSV Immunization (Beyfortus) is now available for babies under 8 months of age who have not previously been immunized and mom has not been vaccinated during pregnancy. We strongly recommend this immunization to keep your baby healthy. Send a portal message or call us to schedule.

RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a common viral illness in the Fall and Winter that affects the respiratory tract. While some children experience mild symptoms like a bad cold (cough, nasal congestion) other children (particularly infants) may develop more severe lung disease requiring oxygen/ hospitalization. RSV is the most common cause of hospitalization in infants. There are two types of immunizations to help prevent your baby from developing serious illness from RSV.

This immunization is different from traditional vaccines--it is a dose of pre-made antibodies against RSV given to your baby (in a traditional vaccine the patient's immune system makes the antibodies in response to the vaccine). Antibody injections have been given safely for infection prevention for many years. This immunization will significantly decrease the risk of serious complications and hospitalizations from RSV and is very safe with very few side effects.

WE EXPECT COVID VACCINES TO BE AVAILABLE SOON. If you are interested in your child receiving a COVID vaccine please mark this on your appointment request.

For Saturday drive-thru clinic --when you enter our parking lot please turn RIGHT to join the vaccine line (one-way only around our building).

Parents are also welcome and encouraged to get their flu vaccines with their child(ren) but ALL recipients must be pre-registered and have appointments (due to time constraints we will not be able to “add on” anyone without an appointment).

In order to make this process smooth and successful it is VERY IMPORTANT that your child is dressed appropriately. Most of the time children will remain in their seats for their vaccine.

Infants/ toddlers < 2 years will receive the vaccine in their thigh—they must be wearing loose shorts, snap-type (legless) onesie or diaper only. Their thighs MUST be exposed (you can cover their legs with a blanket prior to the vaccine).

Children age 2+ and adults will receive the vaccine in their upper arm—they should wear short sleeves. We will not be able to push up long sleeves or take time to remove the arm from the shirt.

It is extremely important patients are dressed appropriately and ready for their vaccine when you drive up — we will not have time to accommodate wardrobe changes. If your child is not dressed appropriately you will be asked to pull out of the vaccine line and park your car to make any necessary changes and then rejoin the back of the line.

- Children in 5-point harness car seats should remain bucked in their car seats.
- Children in booster seats (using a seat belt) or in standard seat with seat belts should remain in their seat if they are able to hold still on their own . For children who may need assistance holding still a parent may place them on their lap.

-If your child has significant difficulty during vaccines we recommend you call to schedule a separate in-office appointment instead where we will be able to devote more time to your child’s needs.

To schedule please send a portal message titled “Schedule Flu Vaccine” with your preferred date/ time. We anticipate spots will fill fast!

Clothing Closet Info

Henrietta Pediatrics' clothing closet now has Spring/ Summer clothes available! We try to stock clothes from newborn to age 12, though availability will fluctuate based on donations.

If your child’s outgrown clothes are collecting dust in the closet why not donate to a good cause? We are accepting donations of gently used children’s clothing, jackets, and shoes to pass along to our families who would very much appreciate your generosity. You may drop off donations to our office anytime we are open. Items should be in good, gently-used condition. If you are in need of clothing for your child(ren) please send a portal message (choose “clothing closet request”) with requested size and items.

Medication refill requests may be sent through your portal--please allow 3 business days. Portal messages will NOT be reviewed during this time--all medical needs should be addressed with Greece Pediatrics if it cannot wait until the office re-opens.

For expectant mothers between 32-36 weeks gestation there is an immunization called ABRYSVO. Talk to your OB about this vaccine. When moms receive this vaccine their body makes antibodies against the RSV virus which are then passed onto the baby. This gives your baby immune fighting cells to protect against RSV. We strongly encourage moms to receive this vaccine in the last trimester of preganancy.

If mom did not receive this vaccine then baby can receive the immunization Beyfortus (nirsevimab). This immunization is different from traditional vaccines--it is a dose of pre-made antibodies against RSV given to your baby (in a traditional vaccine the patient's immune system makes the antibodies in response to the vaccine). Antibody injections have been given safely for infection prevention for many years. This immunization will significantly decrease the risk of serious complications and hospitalizations from RSV and is very safe with very few side effects.

Newborns who are born between October-March will be able to receive the immunization at birth prior to hospital discharge (if mom was not vaccinated). If your baby is born during this time I strongly encourage you to provide this immunization for your baby in the hospital if it is available at the time of delivery to provide the best protection. For older babies under 8 months they can receive the immunization in the office.

Flu Vaccine Clinics

It is hard to believe flu season is right around the corner! I strongly recommend flu vaccine every Fall for everyone age 6 months and older . In an effort to make getting your family’s flu vaccines as simple and quick as possible this year we will be holding two drive-thru flu vaccine clinics right outside our office and one in-office clinic BY APPOINTMENT ONLY on the following dates:

DRIVE-THRU: Saturday September 14th 9am-12pm
DRIVE-THRU: Saturday October 26th 9am-12pm

IN-OFFICE: Wednesday September 25th 3pm-4:30pm

Clothing Closet Donations and Requests

Henrietta Pediatrics is starting a clothing closet! Are your child’s outgrown clothes collecting dust in the closet? Want to make sure they go to a good cause? We are accepting donations of gently used children’s clothing, jackets, shoes (and books) to pass along to our families who would very much appreciate your generosity. You may drop off donations to our office anytime we are open. Items should be in good, gently-used condition. If you are in need of clothing for your child(ren) please send a portal message (choose “clothing closet request” option, please send a separate portal for each child) with requested size and items. It may take a little time to accumulate enough donations to be able to distribute.

Late Arrival Policy

We value your time; we ask that you please respect ours and the time of other patients. In order for us to be able to see you in a timely manner we ask all patients to arrive five minutes early for scheduled appointments.

Patients arriving more than 10 minutes late may be asked to reschedule, and the missed-appointment policy will apply.

Missed/Canceled Appointment Policy

We strive to provide timely appointments for our patients; missed or canceled appointments with less than 24 hours notice detrimentally affects patient care, the practice and other patients. We understand that life happens, however, families who habitually no-show or cancel last minute will be asked to find alternative care after three occurrences.

We are very excited to now have RSV Immunization (Beyfortus) available for ALL insurance types for babies under 8 months AND weigh more than 11 pounds (and for some insurance types for smaller babies). We have a very limited supply which will be given on a first-come first-serve basis. How to prevent RSV in your newborn

There is some great news—we now have TWO immunizations available to help prevent your newborn from getting RSV this winter.

RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a common viral illness in the Fall and Winter that affects the respiratory tract. While some children experience mild symptoms like a bad cold (cough, nasal congestion) other children (particularly infants) may develop more severe lung disease requiring oxygen/ hospitalization. RSV is the most common cause of hospitalization in infants. These immunizations will help PREVENT your baby from developing serious illness from RSV.

One immunization is available for pregnant mothers between 32-36 weeks gestation called ABRYSVO. Talk to your OB about this vaccine. It is also available at some pharmacies including Walgreens. When moms receive this vaccine their body makes antibodies against the RSV virus which are then passed onto the baby. This gives your baby the immune fighting cells he needs to protect against RSV infection.

The second type of immunization is given to your baby and is called Beyfortus (nirsevimab). This immunization is different from traditional vaccines--it is a dose of pre-made antibodies against RSV given to your baby (in a traditional vaccine the patient's immune system makes the antibodies in response to the vaccine). Antibody injections have been given safely for infection prevention for many years. This immunization has been shown to significantly decrease the risk of serious complications and hospitalizations from RSV (over 80%) and is very safe with very few side effects.

There is very limited supply of nirsevimab within the community, however, it is now available at the time of hospital discharge after birth. If mom has not received ABRYSVO vaccine I strongly encourage you to provide this immunization for your baby if it is available at the time of delivery (you can get one or the other immunization but do not need both).

Masking Reminder

We are now full-swing into respiratory viral illness season. Most of these infections are transmitted through coughs, sneezes and just breathing. Over the last several years we have learned that masks help reduce the transmission of these virus particles --not just COVID but also flu, RSV and many other respiratory viruses. In an effort to keep you, other patients and our staff healthy we are reminding you that all sick patients over age 2 and their families must mask while in the office. It is your responsibility to bring your own mask; we have a limited supply and it is very difficult for us to provide masks for everyone. Anyone accompanying an ill child must also mask as most viruses are contagious 1-2 days BEFORE symptoms start. We realize that some patients may find this request inconvenient but it is a very small ask for us to keep our staff healthy (if we are sick we will not be able to take care of your children!) and also protect our most vulnerable patients.

For now masks will still be optional if ALL individuals in your party are feeling well with NO illness symptoms. If we start to see a surge of flu, COVID or RSV we may return to having mandatory masking for everyone.

Illness symptoms include but are not limited to: fever, cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, eye discharge, rash.

Updated Mask Policy

Beginning Monday May 1st masks will be optional for WELL patients and families without any illness symptoms . PLEASE , if your child is sick (this includes fever, cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, eye discharge) masks are still required (not only does this help keep you and your family healthy but also our staff so we can continue to come to work healthy to care for your children). We will continue to sanitize the office regularly including exam rooms after each visit and have HEPA filters throughout the office.

COVID vaccine now available for kids age 6 months+

COVID vaccines are now approved for kids age 6 months and older. We strongly recommend all elgible patients be vaccinated. We are offering Moderna vaccine for kids 6 months-5 years and Pfizer vaccine for kids 5 years and up. Call our office to schedule!

Kids 12+ are now approved for COVID vaccine boosters if it has been more than FIVE months since their second dose. We are continuing to give vaccines at our office every Friday for all patients age 5+ and parents/ caregivers.

CDC Changes to Quarantine and Isolation

New CDC Guidelines are below.

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19:

IF: you have been boosted OR c ompleted the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months OR c ompleted the primary series of J&J vaccine within the last 2 months,

THEN: Wear a mask around others for 10 days, test on day 5 if possible. If you develop symptoms get a test and stay home.

IF: you completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and are NOT boosted OR completed the primary series of J&J over 2 months ago and are not boosted OR are unvaccinated,

THEN : Stay home for 5 days . After that continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days. Test on day 5 if possible. If you develop symptoms get a test and stay home.

If you test positive for COVID-19:

EVERYONE (regardless of vaccination status):

Stay home for 5 days. If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house. Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days. If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.
